Course Schedule

Day 1
Parking Lot Meeting 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM

You’ll receive detailed instructions on the meeting location and time 48 hours prior to your course date.

Please arrive on time and bring your coffee—you’re welcome to settle in as we kick things off at 8:00 AM sharp. This one-hour morning meeting sets the tone for the day.

We’ll begin with:

  • A quick overview of avalanche forecasting
  • An introduction to avalanche rescue gear and its purpose

Be sure your snowmobile or snow bike is ready, along with all required gear and supplies for the day. Once the meeting wraps up, we’ll head directly into the field to begin practical training.

Field Instruction 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Given our limited time, please arrive fully equipped—sleds fueled, gear packed, and food ready. We’ll head straight into the mountains for a focused, hands-on session.

We’ll begin with a review of avalanche rescue equipment, then dive into:

  • Rescue techniques and planning
  • Practical exercises
  • Simulated rescue scenarios

This training is designed to build your confidence and sharpen your response in real-world situations.

As we ride through the backcountry, we’ll make strategic stops to:

  • Identify and analyze avalanche terrain
  • Discuss safe travel habits in high-risk zones
  • Conduct snowpack observations through hands-on digging

Bring warm gloves and a toque—you’ll be in the snow, gaining firsthand experience with the building blocks of avalanche formation.

We aim to return to the staging area between 5:00 and 5:30 PM, wrapping up a full day of skill development and applied learning.
