Avalanche education is a lot like learning to drive, it is a graduated process that takes time and commitment. Our courses are designed to have a hands-on approach focusing on application of knowledge in the field to get the highest degree of retention for our students. We like to ride with our students every day! Soul Rides applies the knowledge we instructed in the class to students in the field, while ripping up the pow! Our instructors are leading professionals in the avalanche industry, guides, and top-quality riders.
Introduction to Motorized Avalanche Skills Training (M.A.S.T.) Course
Introduction to Motorized Avalanche Skills Training is designed for the entry level or the motorized backcountry user that just has not found the time or the money to invest in Avalanche Skills Training level 1. The course is designed for hands on instruction, so we will be spending the full day in the field, riding, and learning the basic skills needed to manage simple avalanche terrain.
M.A.S.T. Level 1 Courses
This is a two day on snow entry level avalanche course designed for the motorized user. We offer the course in two forms. M.A.S.T. 1 and M.A.S.T. 1plus. Our preferred form for M.A.S.T. 1 is the plus. We feel it is a better experience for our clients with more field time that allows us more time to teach you how to apply the knowledge. This helps you, the student, retain key skills.
M.A.S.T. Level 2 Courses
This level is a 3 or 4 day on snow avalanche course designed for the motorized user. This course is designed to meet your needs depending on the time that has passed since you finished your first level of Avalanche Skills Training, and the retention you have from that course. Soul Rides recommends M.A.S.T. 2 plus for students who have not taken their on-snow level one in recent years and feel rusty. If you recently finished an Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 in the past 2 years and are confident in retention, then a M.A.S.T. 2 in a 3-day format is what we recommend.
